James "Jim" Ogland Obituary

Ogland, James W. “Jim”, age 87 of Wayzata passed away July 12, 2018. Survived by his loving wife, Peggy; son, Tim Ogland; daughters, Diane Rowe (Harley) and Summer Skay (Bob Taylor); grandchildren, Brent Rowe, Kaytlen Morsching, Jenna Rowe, Stephanie Ogland, Savannah Taylor; 3 great-grandchildren and brother, Tom Ogland.  Jim lived his life with zest and will be remembered for his subtle sense of humor, and master of many interests.  He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the Airforce.  He was a member of the American Legion, Zuhrah Shrine, Mason’s, Minnesota, Wayzata and Excelsior Historical Societies. Jim grew up on Lake Minnetonka and loved the lake.  He was past commander of the Power Squadron as well as the 1st Captain of the Steamboat Minnehaha.  Past National Commander of the Wheelman, founder and president of the Minnesota Kite Society.  He retired after 18 years as an executive at IBM.  Jim owned three funeral homes was a founding partner of the Wooden Bird Factory, real estate broker, historian, amazing artist and craftsman.  He could build, fix and create anything.  Jim rode his 1885 High Wheel bike solo across America from San Francisco to Boston and International Falls to New Orleans. He also authored three books. Memorial service 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Boulevard, Wayzata with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) or to Wayzata Community Church.
