John Schmidt Obituary

Age 81 of Plymouth. After a long journey with Alzheimer’s and with his loving wife of 61 years by his side, his journey ended on Sunday May 12, 2019. John was born on February 9, 1938 near Brainerd, MN. He married his wife Nancy on March 22, 1958. John graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mathematics and soon after served his country as an officer in the Navy. He was stationed in Japan with his wife and 2 daughters. As a pioneer in the Minnesota computer industry, John worked with several major Twin City firms before establishing his own computer software company. John loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He loved adventure. Along with his wife, he built a log cabin in Northern Minnesota that was their pride and joy. John will be remembered for his sense of humor, keen intellect and love of children. He is survived by his loyal wife Nancy; children, Deborah Schmidt, Diane Schmidt Awsumb (Robert), David Schmidt (Sherral), daughter-in-law, Terri Schmidt, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, Dean Schmidt, his parents John and Magdalena and siblings Don, Viola, Norma and Robert. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Salvation Army. Memorial service Wednesday May 29, 10:30 AM at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Interment Fort Snelling Cemetery.
