John “Jack” Henry Platt Jr., longtime resident of Northfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully in Wayzata, Minnesota on July 7, 2018. Beloved husband for 65 years of the late Katherine “Kay” Steed Platt; loving father of Kathy Platt (Bruce) Recher, Pamela Platt (Loyal) Carlson, and John Platt III (Kathryn); cherished grandfather to Jessica Carlson, Jeff and Mark Recher, and Bill Platt; devoted brother of the late Bob and Jim as well as Bill; precious son of the late Jack and Arlene Platt; loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Jack graduated from New Trier High School and University of Michigan where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta. Trained by the Army Air Corps as a meteorologist, Jack proudly served his country as a lieutenant in World War II. After graduating from University of Michigan Law School, Jack returned to Chicago working at first in law and then devoting his career to the photo engraving industry, including president of two companies. Jack was a passionate gardener, avid sports fan (Go Blue!), and played golf and tennis well into his 80’s. Jack devoted time to many organizations including the New Trier Men’s Garden Club and was an active member of Northfield Community Church. A memorial service will be held at Northfield Community Church, 400 Wagner Road, Northfield, Illinois 60093. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Home and Aid, 125 S. Wacker Drive,14th floor, Chicago Illinois 60606 or Northfield Community Church.
