Ronald Shaffer Obituary

Shaffer, Ronald Allan age 69, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, passed away on September 19, 2019 from Melanoma cancer at his home. Ron was born on January 21, 1950 in Davenport, Iowa, as the first son of Ardith and Harold Shaffer. He went to high school in Decatur, Illinois at MacArthur High School and graduated in 1967. He went on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. He worked in several geotechnical engineering firms throughout the state but spent most of his career at Braun Intertec. He enjoyed his house, yard and family. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Harold Shaffer; brother, Gregory Shaffer; and wife, Maura Shaffer. Ron is survived by his mother, Ardith Shaffer; brother, Jerry Shaffer (Linda Shaffer); sisters, Sharlyn Willis (Bob Willis) and Dian Shaffer; his son, David Shaffer (Emily Fang-Yen); his grandchild, Delia Shaffer, as well as four nephews and two nieces. Visitation will be held on October 5, 2019 from 10:30am - 11:00am at David Lee Funeral Home in Wayzata, with Funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Ron's ashes, along with his wife Maura's, will be scattered together at a later date. The family requests that friends and family send donations to the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center in lieu of flowers. To summarize his 69 years, Ron was a dedicated civil engineer, lovely brother and son, wonderful father and great husband. He loved family, and he loved earth. Now he returns to both in peace.
