Age 73, of Orono, passed away January 14, 2019. He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Iva (Lindstrom) Bernard. Survived by wife of 49 years, Lynette (Rood) Bernard; brother, Gary (Betty) Bernard; son, Christopher (Kathleen) Bernard; daughter, Rebecca (Mike) Newcomb; grandchildren, Emma, Lydia, Estella, and William.
Tom began a distinguished 37 year career with Thermo King in 1967 as a material planner. In 1969 he was promoted into Human Resources where he spent the rest of his career, retiring as Director of HR for Worldwide Manufacturing Operations in 2005. Early in his career a coworker introduced him to Lyn on a blind date, which led to a long and happy marriage that would have reached 50 years this next August 9th.
Tom found great joy in his grandkids and family, his home on Lake Minnetonka, boating, winters in Florida, sunsets, making home movies, and Happy Hours with his friends. Tom will be greatly missed and remembered for his trademark sense of humor.
Because Tom passed away on Lyn’s birthday, the family will be holding a Memorial gathering on his birthday, February 3, 2019 (1:00-4:00 PM), at the Lafayette Country Club, 2800 Northview Road on Lake Minnetonka. Please join the family at 1:00 pm for light refreshments and at 2:30 pm friends and family will celebrate his life by sharing stories and singing Happy Birthday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the ‘Save the Lake Fund’ at LMCD (Lake Minnetonka Conservation District) or Frauenshuh Cancer Center at Methodist Hospital.
