Amandus "Andy" and Rita Schneider 

Wayzata, MN - Andy age 96, passed away on December 28, 2025 and his wife of 70 years Rita passed away on May 21,2026. They were both residents of the Folkestone community in Wayzata.

As a teenager in the early 1940s Andy immigrated by himself to Stillwater MN from Germany. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps & was a combat veteran of the Korean conflict. Upon his return he reconnected with Rita, who was still in Berlin Germany, and were married in 1955.

Helped by the G.I bill, Andy earned his engineering degree from the U of MN and enjoyed a 35 year career with 3M as an International project manager.

Rita dedicated herself to raising their family & also worked for Ecolab as a translator.

They both were blessed with wonderful friends and enjoyed travelling worldwide. Above all else, Andy & Rita treasured their children, grandchildren, in-laws & extended family (The Geelans) who brought them countless joy.

Survived by son Marty (Janet Schaefer), daughter Andrea (Bill Thoms) and granddaughters Elke and Ingrid Thoms along with many other friends here and relatives in Germany.

A special thanks to daughter-in-law Janet for her loving commitment & help along with the entire care team at Folkestone and caregivers Elizabeth and Deb.

The service for Andy & Rita will be an honor guard ceremony at The Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday August 18, 2026 at 11am (meeting at 10:45am in area 2).

Memorials preferred to St. George's Church of Long Lake MN or The Presbyterian Homes.
