Angus Morrison Obituary Morrison, Angus Truesdale Gus passed away on his 97th birthday, February 13, 2016. Born in Minneapolis in 1919, he was a lifetime resident of Wayzata, MN. He had a strong, optimistic outlook on life and possessed a keen intellectual curiosity which he constantly exercised. He attended The Blake School, The Hotchkiss School, Union College, and Yale University. At age 17 he fulfilled a childhood dream when he earned his private pilots license. In June 1941 he joined the Navy, where he served four years as a naval aviator, first as a flight instructor and later as a division leader in a carrier-based fighter squadron in the Pacific theater. Gus achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was awarded two distinguished flying crosses, four air medals, and a Navy Unit Citation. After his military service, dad graduated with honors from Yale University. He then joined the Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company, serving as an executive until 1962, when he joined the investment firm of Paine, Webber, where he became a partner, retiring at age 70. He was preceded in death by his parents Angus Washburn and Helen Truesdale Morrison, daughter in law, Jody, his sister Anne Snyder, brothers Clinton and John, and his beloved wife Virginia Hunter Gault. They had four children, Julia (Brian) Palmer, Nancy, Angus "Sandy" (Lynn), Clint (Mary). Popper and Nana had six grandchildren, Hunter (Adam) Wright, Ashley (Jay) Rajaratnam, Julia Shaver, Jamie Shaver, Anna (Peter) Nelson and Calley. There are three (and counting) great-grandchildren, Morrison and Palmer Wright, and Nola Rajaratnam. Civic activities included service as a Director Minneapolis Chapter American Red Cross, Director MN Mental Health Association, Chairman United Negro College Fund Minneapolis, and Chairman Special Gifts Division United Fund of Minneapolis, Trustee Northrop Collegiate School, and Member Wayzata City Council. Hobbies and interests included sailing, golf, tennis, computer science, ham radio, bridge, and painting. He maintained his commercial and instrument pilots license for 70 years. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Sandra Mooney for her tender loving care of both Gus and Gingie in the last years of their lives. There will be a private family service at Folkestone.
