Ardyce Carlson Obituary Carlson, Ardyce (Nelson) Age 87, of St. Paul, died December 31, 2006. Preceded in death by husband, Melvin, and son, Carney. Much loved by grandchildren, Brandon and Kersta Carlson and daughter-in-law, Linda. Also survived by favorite sister- in-law, Marg Friendt and her extended family. Ardyce's life was dedicated to nursing, health education, and her family. She obtained her nursing certificate from Bethesda Hospital & joined the army, serving in WWII and volunteering for overseas duty. Captain Nelson served in England & France, in charge of nurses in field hospitals on the front lines. Her nurses became part of her family. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Upon her return from service, Ardyce completed her Bachelor's in Nursing at the U of M and married her hometown sweetheart. She served for a time as Director of Nurses at Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing. She received her Master's in School Health Education & finished her professional life as St. Paul School District Administrator responsible for school nurses, dental hygienists, and developing the Agape Program for pregnant teens in the district. Her nurses became part of her family. Ardyce's passions included all needlework (especially knitting), photography, travel out west"", fly-fishing, and most of all, her grandchildren. Services & burial will be private. No flowers please. Memorials preferred to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (to honor Mel and to encourage Linda's cousin, Alexis), the U of M Alumni Association, or to St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth.
