Arnold Hilgenkamp Obituary Arnold Allen Hilgenkamp - 1/18/31 5/6/24 Son of Agnes and Evie Hilgenkamp. Born in Arlington, NE. Arnold (Arnie) grew up on a farm in Arlington, NE and later in his teens moved with his family to Fremont, NE. He was a Navy veteran having served on board the Yorktown in the Korean War. He went to college at Valparaiso University where he met his wife, Janice. They were married for 63 years and were blessed with three sons, Todd, Brad, and Jon. He had a successful career using his mechanical engineering degree in selling industrial refrigeration. He was a strong Christian and believer in Jesus Christ, his Savior. He was very active in the churches that he and his family attended in the various cities where they lived. He sang in choirs, served on various boards of the churches and was instrumental in helping launch Redeemer Lutheran School in Wayzata, MN. He also served as the President of the Valparaiso University Alumni Board in the 1980s. After retiring from his sales career he volunteered for twenty years at Methodist Hospital and also worked at Baker National Golf Course as a starter. He loved his family and took great delight in watching his boys play sports. As the family grew with daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he enjoyed being together with them and watching them in their various activities. He shared his faith with each of them and will be remembered for that. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Evie; father and mother-in-law Otto and Gertrude Bartelt; siblings, Betty, Morris, Dorris, Jean, and Bob and his beloved wife, Janice. Survived by sons, Todd (Sue), Brad (Janice), and Jon (Kim), nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 115 Wayzata Boulevard West with visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayzata, MN or to Valparaiso University.
