Arthur Joseph Haspeslagh was born on July 20, 1945 in Attica, Ohio to Paul and Helen Haspeslagh and passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 11th. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Art grew up on the family farm in Ohio, but as the Vietnam War was beginning, he made the courageous decision to leave the farm and voluntarily enlist in the United States Marine Corps rather than wait to be drafted. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected the courage, commitment, and sense of duty he carried with him throughout the years. He proudly attained the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge.

In September 1969, Art married Susan Lee Parr. Together they raised three daughters, Kelly, Kimberly, and Kari. While raising a family, and working at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Cincinnati, Ohio, Art earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. In 1981, his job at Citibank took the family to Sioux Falls, SD. Susan passed away in 1998, leaving Art and their daughters to carry on the family they had built together.

Art later met Kathryn Raymond, and their love story began a new chapter. They were married on May 24, 2003. Through Kathryn, Art welcomed two more daughters into his family, Lucy Faurot and Jina (Andy) Hagen. He embraced them as his own, and his family grew to include five daughters whom he loved dearly.

Although he was raised on a farm, in adulthood he only wanted to be a “windshield” farmer, watching the crops being planted and harvested from behind the windshield of his truck. Art was a master woodworker and loved making items for his family. He loved music, golf, classic cars, played the guitar and could dance if he had a strong leader.

He truly loved people and social occasions, and was always known as a true gentleman.

Art was a devoted family man who took great pride in his daughters and grandchildren. One of the things his grandchildren will remember most about him was his wonderful sense of humor. Art always seemed to have a joke ready, and the grandkids knew that when Grandpa was around, a good laugh was never far away. His stories, jokes, laughter, and playful spirit brought joy to countless family gatherings and created memories that will be treasured for generations.

Art's life was defined by family, faith, service, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathryn Raymond Haspeslagh, his daughters Kelly Kelly (Dave), Kimberly Adams (Troy), Kari Moe (Kurt); and stepdaughter Jina Hagen (Andy), two sisters Alice Carpenter (Paul d.) and Linda Hastings (Rick d.) and one brother James Haspeslagh (Belinda); grandchildren: Meg (Connor) Lehman, Madeline (Teren) Schuster, and Mollie (Hayden) Berhow; Andrew, Kate, and Matthew Adams; Kassie Foster, Gavin, Avah, and Hudson Moe; Ila Rose and Emmett Hagen. Great Grandchildren: Henry David Schuster and Louis Kelly Lehman; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and outlaws. As well as the many friends whose lives he touched.

He is pre-deceased by his wife Susan Parr Haspeslagh, Stepdaughter Lucy Faurot, brothers Ronald, Tom (Maryann d.), Roger (Sonnie d.) and Mike.

Art was a good friend and a good dad, an even better grandpa and great grandpa and a practically perfect husband.

Though his family will miss his presence, they will carry forward the lessons he taught them, the stories he shared, and—most certainly—his love of a good joke.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 County Road 24, Medina with visitation one hour prior at church.
