Obituary

Barbara Savage Obituary Barbara Long Savage, 96, of Long Lake, died peacefully on November 12, 2024. Preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Erle B. Savage Jr., her son, Palmer Savage, her parents, Doris and Clare Irving Long, and her sister, Nancy Winton. She is survived by her four children: Pauline Gremp, Clare Robinson (Mark), Robert Savage and Pamela Backstrom (Richard). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she loved deeply. Barbara graduated from Northrop Collegiate School (now Blake School) and Connecticut College, before moving to New York to work for Merrill Lynch. She then returned to the Minneapolis area, where she would live for the rest of her life. Barbara was an active member of her community. She served on the board of Stevens Square and was a longtime member of the Lake Minnetonka and Wayzata Garden Clubs, and Woodhill Country Club. Barbara was known for her extraordinary memory, especially when it came to the history of families and homes of Lake Minnetonka and Kenwood. An avid sports fan, she was a loyal supporter of Minnesota teams, staying current on all the stats and players. She also loved watching golf and playing games. She was a Mahjong guru and loved bridge and crosswords. Sailing and hunting with her husband were major parts of their life together. Barbara's family and friends will remember her for her quick wit, love of life and way she brought people together. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of Barbaras life will be held next summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or the donors favorite charity.
