Bert Jones Jr Obituary Bert M. Jones, 79, died quietly the last weekend in April at his home in Minnetonka, MN. Judy, the love of his life and his wife of 29 years, predeceased him. Once Bert met Judy he said she made his life complete. Bert is survived by his cherished daughter, Heather Jones, of Tulsa, and step-children Craig Shaver (Maureen), Lizbeth Berg (Dean), Thomas Shaver (Cristen), Catherine Jensen (Pete) and grandchildren Katie and Jessie Berg, Craig IV and Spencer Shaver, Crosby, Sophia and Drake Shaver and Maggie and Lilly Jensen. For more than 40 years, Bert was a partner and trial lawyer with Rhodes, Hieronymus, Jones, Tucker & Gable in Tulsa. He was a graduate of Will Rogers High School, the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma University College of Law, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Following graduation, Bert served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was an officer in the USMC Res., attaining the rank of Major. Bert began his trial career as an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County from which he joined Rhodes in Tulsa. He was a Fellow in the Oklahoma and Tulsa County Bar Foundations, and a founding Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates (Oklahoma), the Defense Research Institute, and the Products Liability Advisory Council. Bert collected many wins driving in Sports Car Club of America races, including at the SCCA National Championships. He drove to win, earning the nickname Kamikaze Jones. He was a competitive ballroom dancer and trophy winner in national competitions, and was an avid golfer. First and foremost Bert was what he most wanted to be - an excellent trial lawyer and mentor to young lawyers. His jury trials in defense of manufacturers established much of the products liability law in Oklahoma. Kirkland v. General Motors, a Bert Jones case, has been cited in virtually every Oklahoma federal and state court addressing products liability since it was decided by Oklahomas Supreme Court in 1974. He was admired and trusted by his clients and those who had the opportunity to work with him. He was loyal to those he befriended, was informed and well-read, and had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him. Donations may be made to the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
