Betty Callahan (nee Rolain) passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, at the age of 102 in Minnesota, where she had recently moved to be closer to family.

Betty was born February 14, 1923, to Walter and Elin Rolain, and was the oldest of eleven children. She moved to Chicago after graduating high school and studied to be an RN at Michael Reese Hospital. It was in Chicago where she met her husband, William (Smokey) Callahan.

They raised their family in Western Springs, Illinois. In 1977, they retired to northern Wisconsin and enjoyed happy years on Lake Alva near Betty's family in Rhinelander. In later years they moved to Destin, Florida, where they loved the warm, wonderful "Emerald Coast." Betty participated and enjoyed many church activities at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Walton. She also enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, painting, reading and traveling throughout the world.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Smokey, and by her brothers Bob, Darrell, Ray, Don and Pete Rolain and sister Lois Lukarich.

She is survived by her three children, Cathy (Jerry) Rierson, Mike Callahan, and Kerry (Wendell) Harvey.

She is also survived by siblings Barbara (Dick) Stevens, Dick (Marilyn), Karen (Bill) Franke, and Nancy (Edward) Kuehn and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was the loving grandmother to Jennifer (Chris) Mertins, Alissa Wondolkowski, Christopher (Laura) Rierson, Jon (Kristin) Harvey, Scott (Amber) Harvey, Katie (Garry) Mayhew and great grandmother to MacKenzie and Lauren Mertins, Max and Josie Wondolkowski, Andrew, Sophia, and Julia Rierson, Brianna and William Harvey, Graham and Claire Harvey, and Brooklyn and Addie Mayhew.

Celebration of life and memorial service will be at a later date.
