Betty Jean (Wisen) Harding passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026 at the age of 93 in Prentice, WI.
She was born in Anoka County, MN on September 21, 1932 to Russell and Amy Marie (Magnuson) Wisen. She grew up in Soderville, MN along with her three younger siblings.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior during her high school years at Anoka High School. While attending Lutheran Bible Institute Betty committed her life to missions.
While attending Northwestern Bible School in St. Paul she met her future husband. Betty and Sherman Harding, Jr. were married on June 20, 1955 at Mount Carmel Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN. They lived in Bellvue, WA, Utica, MI and Rockford, MN before settling in Maple Plain, MN where they lived most of their lives and raised their four sons. In their retirement, they moved to Kilgore, TX. In March 2025, Betty made her last move to Prentice, WI where she lived with her son David and his family until her death.
Betty enjoyed reading, writing, gardening and crafting. Her love of writing led her to finish her education and earn a Bachelor Degree in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute at age 79. She was the one to go to if you ever had any kind of questions about gardening because of her “green thumb”. She enjoyed reading and working in the church library.
She is survived by her sons Dan (Renee), Jim (LeAnne), and David (Candy), daughter-in-law Mary, 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren
(one on the way), her siblings Carol Scott, Ken (Diane) Wisen, and Marilyn Will and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Amy Marie Wisen, husband Sherman, son Paul and grandsons Isaac and Josiah and brother-in-laws Donald Scott and Albert Will.
Her visitation will be held at Calvary Memorial Church, 2420 Dunwoody Ave, Wayzata, MN on Sunday July 12, 2026 from 4-7 pm and one hour before the service.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Calvary Memorial Church at 2 pm.
Interment will be at 5pm at Lewis Cemetery, Independence, MN at Hwy.12 and County Rd. 90.
