Obituary

Betty Noonan Obituary Noonan, Betty V. Age 92 of Minnetonka. Betty was born in St. Paul on April 15, 1924, to Daniel and Bertha (Giebel) Hanson. She grew up in St. Paul attending Jackson grade school and graduating from Mechanic Heights High School in 1942. After high school, she began working as a secretary at the advertising firm of Brown and Bigelow in St. Paul. After more than 23 years at Brown and Bigelow, Betty took a job with the Schaper Toy Company (the Cootie company) in Plymouth. She became the manager of sales administration there. She found joy in working and was successful in the business world when few women worked outside the home. Betty was in her 20s when she met William (Bill) Noonan. They were married on September 23, 1950. They became very involved in Alcoholics Anonymous as Bill battled this disease. She was very proud of the fact that he had over 20 years sobriety when he passed away of cancer in 1988 after 38 years of marriage. Although they never had any children of their own, they frequently had nieces and nephews spending weekends with them. Betty was the "fun" aunt every child loved to have (and every parent secretly dreaded). Ice cream for breakfast and staying up late was the norm at her house. After Betty retired from Schaper, she became a guardian ad litem for Hennepin County. She represented children from troubled homes in the family courts. Helping children was a passion of hers. When she had finished her time as a guardian, she went to work at St. Therese Catholic Church and School in Deephaven. She greatly enjoyed her time there until Alzheimers started robbing her of her ability to function on a daily basis. She suffered with this disease for the last 12 years of her life. Bettys fight with Alzheimers ended on Monday, August 1st, when she went home to be with her Lord. Preceded in death by husband, William Noonan. Betty is survived by her niece Susan (Robert) Past, nephew Steven Hanson, niece-in-law Barb Hanson, cousin Carol Lundquist, six grand nephews and nieces, David and Daniel Past, Benjamin and Kristine Hanson, Matthew Hanson and Mary Tody, and step-daughter Barbara Ostlund. Funeral service Thursday August 4, 11 AM with visitation at 10:30 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Interment St Marys Cemetery, Waverly, MN. Memorials preferred to Augustana Chapel View Care Center.
