Catherine 'Cathy' Meakins Obituary Catherine (Burd) Meakins Cathy passed away on February 5, 2020 at the age of 47 after a long-fought battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Francis and Sharon Burd. Survived by loving husband, Shawn, yellow lab Harley, and many beloved friends and family. Cathy graduated from Hill-Murray High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Loyola University of Chicago. She spent almost her entire nursing career working at Regions Hospital in various roles. She loved being a nurse and always felt it to be an honorable profession. Cathy had a love for distance running. This turned into a passion after learning she could become part of the American Brain Tumor Association running team. This was an important organization to her as her mother passed away from a glioblastoma at the age of 46. Cathy ran too many races to count including both half marathons and full marathons. Cathy raised over $10,000 in donations for the ABTA. Cathy loved to travel and together she and Shawn had the privilege to travel throughout the United States as well as around the world. Cathy also loved planting flower pots, sitting on their deck watching the wildlife, boating, wake surfing and all things Lake Minnetonka. Cathy and Shawn were compassionate about animals and became involved in an organization called Pilots N Paws. As members of this group, it allowed them to fly around the country and rescue several dogs. They were part of a large network of fosters, transporters and other pilots trying to accomplish the same mission. Cathys greatest joy was her relationship with Shawn. Cathy was convinced she led a very charmed and happy life with Shawn. One of which fairytales were written about. Memorial celebration Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 at David Lee Funeral Home in Wayzata, MN. A Celebration of Life happy hour will follow with event location provided at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Animal Humane Society of Golden Valley or Park Nicollet Foundation for Hospice.
