Clara 'Pat' Proctor Obituary Clara (Pat) M. Proctor
Surrounded by family and loved ones, Clara passed on in her home in Wayzata, August 5, 2021, just days after her 90th birthday party. This wish to stay at home was possible, with support from Hospice, due to the devotion of her family and her loving and capable caregiver, Kelly, who stepped into our lives like an angel sent from God.
Clara loved being with familyboth those around the country and her own grown children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As her niece in Idaho put it, who has considered my moms house her home away from home, "She will be missed but always remembered for her great big heart, warm bubbly voice, and generous hugs." Always supportive, positive and appreciative, Clara found joy in each day right up to her passing. She did not fear death, but instead looked forward to going to heaven.
Born during the Great Depression in the rural outskirts of Quincy, IL, August 1, 1931, to Frank and Mary (Waterman) Holtschlag, the sixth child of seven, Clara (Pat or Petsy) never forgot her humble agricultural roots and what it was to live off the land and work hard. Daughter of truck farmers, she loved plants and gardening until she died, and has passed that love on to her offspring and grandchildren.
Following a move to Minneapolis, from Colorado in the mid 1960s, Clara found an entry level job at Prudential Insurance, while lovingly raising three children, and soon worked her way up the ranks with a strong work ethic and great people skills, despite having only a high school diploma. Using her strong organization skills, she even found time for home-cooked family meals every night and weekend fishing and camping trips.
Upon retirement, Clara did volunteer work through Prudential and at the MN Arboretum, and remained active at Wayzata Free Church, including leading Sunday school for children and Bible study for a womens group. Her strong Christian faith gave great strength and comfort to her.
In their retirement decades, Clara and Dick thoroughly enjoyed tending their perennial flower beds, especially the extensive Hosta gardens, as well as sightseeing on road trips around the country. After losing Dick in 2018, her husband of 67 years, she continued living on her own and even used an Ipad regularly to stay in contact with family and friends, as well as being informed on the news (including the Twins and Vikings).
Clara is survived by her son, Doug Proctor (Janice); two daughters, Debbie Mikkola and Beth Elias (Les); 2 grandchildren, Cory and Jenna; 3 great grandchildren, Izzy, Cole, and Parker; and beloved extended family members, Kelly and Gabby.
