Anderson, Darrell E. of Orono, Minnesota. Born December 31, 1935 and passed away at the age of 73 on November 7, 2009 at home after a nearly year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Braham, Minnesota, he grew up on the family farm in Walbo, Minnesota. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953 and went on to receive a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 1958. From 1958 through 1960 he served as a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service. In 1964 he married Karin Falk and they moved to Boston where he attended Harvard University and received a Masters of Science Degree in Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene. He had a long and distinguished career with the State of Minnesota. First as Chief, Section of Occupational Health for the Minnesota Department of Health, then as Administrative Director for Minnesota OSHA at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. He retired in December 2000. He was a Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and Certified Safety Professional. He served as Director of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene from 1978-1984 and as Counselor for the American Academy of Industrial Hygiene from 1978-1984. In 2001 he was the first recipient of the Arthur E. McCauley, Jr. Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Leadership Award "for outstanding dedication and accomplishments toward improving workers' safety and health in Minnesota." He had a very active retirement that included traveling extensively, downhill skiing in Colorado, building a new home, woodworking, and enjoying weekends at the lake. He was a devoted Gophers fan, holding football season tickets for more than 40 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Elvira Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karin; by two sons: Mark and his wife Mirjana; Brent and his wife Dena; and six grandchildren. Funeral service 11 AM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Wayzata Evangelical Free Church, 705 Highway 101 N., Plymouth. Visitation 5-8 PM Tuesday at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment Summit Park Cemetery, Wayzata. Memorials preferred to Wayzata Evangelical Free Church and The American Swedish Institute.
