Obituary

David Dovenberg Obituary David Edward Dovenberg (76) of Wayzata, Minnesota passed away peacefully on May 10, 2021. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his family, who loved him deeply. He was wearing red socks. Dave was born June 30, 1944 to parents Ed and Fran, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School and earned degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota. He had a long and rewarding career, most recently as the Chief Executive Officer at Universal Hospital Services. In 1964, Dave met his wonderful wife, Jean. In their nearly 51 years of marriage, they were always at each others side. Together they had two children: Robert and Kirsten; and through them and their spouses, Erica and Brendan, six grandchildren: James, Declan, Madison, Riley, Virginia and Alexandra. He loved them all unconditionally. Daves red socks were a constant reminder that every day is important. Originally worn on special occasions only, he was rarely seen without them after his cancer diagnosis in 1989. It was a reminder to celebrate often, that every day is special and live life to its fullest and he did. You could hear his laugh from blocks away. He was the life of every party. He enjoyed fishing, travel, time with friends, golf, playing bridge, reading and "House Chardonnay." If you measure a person by how much good they leave behind, then Dave was a giant. He was a mentor to countless people. He was philanthropic, especially with his time, and he always picked up the phone when friends or family called. He never had to be asked to help someone. He just did it. David is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren; brother, Richard Dovenberg; sister, Ann Zweig; nieces/nephews; and many others for whom he was an inspiration. Funeral will be held at St. Philip the Deacon Church, 17205 County Road 6, in Plymouth, MN on Monday May 24th at 10:00. Visitation at 9:00. All are welcome. Memorials preferred to Interfaith Outreach or the American Cancer Society.
