He was a devoted grandfather and will be sorely missed by his two 'favorite guys.' Dave grew up in Decorah, Iowa. and held degrees from Luther College (B.A.), Drake University (M.A.), and the University of lowa (Ph.D.). He was a Bush Executive Fellow and a participant in the invitational summer school fellowship at Columbia University. Dave was a teacher in St. Claire Shores, Michigan and Ames, Iowa. The family moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, where they raised two daughters and remained for many years. Here, Dave served the Owatonna School District as Elementary Principal, Director of Elementary Education, Assistant Superintendent and ultimately as the Superintendent for 12 years. He and his wife then moved to Plymouth, MN., where Dave served as the Superintendent of the Wayzata School District for the final 8 years of his career. His life's work led him to a retirement as a public speaker for various occasions and events in the business world, speaking for a national speaker's bureau and giving a speech in all 50 states and a variety of international locations. He was frequently asked why he didn't choose the public speaking path for his career and would respond with a quick and easy answer: 'he had the best career on earth.' Every year on graduation night, he would look out at the class, his distinguished faculty, school board, and proud families and knew there was no better way to spend his life. Dave also belonged to several organizations related to his profession in the church and rotary. A visitation will be held at 1 PM with a 2 PM celebration of life service followed by a social gathering afterwards on Thursday, May 30 at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN.
