Dayton Johnson Obituary
Johnson, Dayton A. Beloved father, grandfather, great-grand- father, Dayton was the quintessential engineer who pursued his passion for electronics and radio until his death at age 86. He died November 22, 2007 of complications following stomach surgery. He had a never-ending curiosity and knowledge for how things worked, always tinkering, designing and creating. His military service began at Scott's Field and he was stationed in China where his radio expertise was critical to planes flying the India- China airlift. As a young man he founded Dayton Engineering Sales and then followed with a long Sales Engineering career with Research Inc. In his work he was part of the very early wave of American business opening up trade throughout Asia-Pacific. In later years he inspired young minds at NEI (National Electronics Institute). He received national recognition for his antennae designs which were featured in electronic trade journals. He loved amateur television and HAM radio, his call letters were WOZI"", and he was active in the community Emergency Response Team. Boating, camping, gardening, and house projects were his interests. He graduated from Minneapolis South High in 1939. Preceded in death by wife, Bobbi; parents, Enstry and Alfred; brothers, Norman and Gordon. Survived by sons, Kim Johnson and wife Theresa, Tracy Johnson and wife Sharon; daughters, Sara Gaasvig, Liz Reep and husband Cliff; thirteen grandchildren, Chelsea, Jason, Olivia, Emily, Lucas, Meghan, Maudie, Nicholas, Mitchell, Casey, Bob, Rachael, Maverick, Colton; three great-grandchildren, Logan, A.J., and Alex, and sisters, Juel Skaer, Audrey Johnson. Funeral Service Thursday, Nov. 29, 11:00 am at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd with visitation 1 hour prior to funeral. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
