Don Harley Obituary Harley, Don E. Age 92, of Medina, formerly of St. Paul, died on May 6, 2010. Preceded in death by first wife, Jean Beddall Harley. Survived by wife, Armilda; daughter, Susan (Jeff) Piper; son, Bill (Jean) Harley; granddaughters, Wendy (Rick) Sutherland, Pamela (Erik) Larson, Erin (Rich) Harley Tsong-Taatarii, Laura (Teddy) Harley Kim; four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Don was born in St. Paul on June 19, 1917, grew up in Minneapolis, and graduated from Minneapolis Central High School and the University of Minnesota. He was an FBI agent during WWII and Director of Product Development at Brown & Bigelow in the post-war era. He founded Don E. Harley Associates, an industrial design firm, in the 1950s; for the next 30 years, Don and his team of designers and model-makers developed leading products for companies such as Honeywell, 3M, Toro, and Kohler. In the 1970s, he co-founded Designer Selections, a promotional products manufacturing company. In 1991, he was named "Person of the Year" in the promotional products industry in recognition of his many years of innovation and excellence in product development. In all areas of his life, Don exemplified true optimism, dignity, strength of spirit, resilience and generosity. He had a genuine zest for life, a witty sense of humor and was young at heart throughout his long life. Memorial service Thursday, May 13, 10:30 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1200 Marquette Ave. S., Minneapolis, followed by a luncheon at Wayzata Country Club. Private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice.
