Obituary

Donald Gunderson Obituary Born April 19, 1920 and died October 13, 2013 at the age of 93 and a half from complications due to Alzheimers. Preceded in death by his parents, Marius Casper and Elida; sister, Evelyn and wife, Margaret to whom he was married for 61 years. Don joined the Marine Corps right after Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific, including Midway Island in 1942. Discharged in October of 1945, he re-enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in March 1951 and served in Cherry Point, North Carolina until his discharge in March 1952, taking his family back to Minneapolis. They moved to Grays Bay on Lake Minnetonka in 1954 where they remained until his retirement from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1980. After retiring, Don and Marge moved to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, where he was elected to the city council as a Ward Alderman, volunteered his time as an ambulance driver, Auxiliary Policeman and Flotilla Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. They enjoyed 23 years together there before moving back to Minnesota to be near family and friends in 2003. Don was a Shriner and Past Master of the Wayzata Masonic Lodge. Don is survived by children, Randy (Connie), Ron (Mary), Kris (Greg); grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly), Megan (Jason), Erin, Bryan (Jennifer), and Lauren; great-grandchildren Paige, Ethan, Nicole and Dessa. Private family interment. Special thanks to the caring staff at Presbyterian Homes in Spring Park. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital or donors choice.
