Donald Newswanger Obituary
Newswanger, Donald Wayne May 16, 1922 to July 5, 2006. Son of Jacob and Annetta Newswanger. Husband of Jean Newswanger. Don was born in Los Angeles, California and became interested in radio and electronics at a very early age. After graduating from John Marshall High School in 1940, he attended USC as an engineering student. His studies were interrupted by World War Two. Don served in the Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946 in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. He married Jean Audrey Phillips of Brooklyn, New York on September 10, 1947. Don worked for the City of Los Angeles for thirty-five years, rising to the position of Chief of the Department of Building and Safety. Having received his B.A. from USC in 1962, he received a management certificate from UCLA. Don also served on the board of Underwriter's Laboratories. He retired to Indianapolis in 1981. Don's interests and hobbies included electronics, rebuilding pipe organs, and growing orchids. In 2004, he moved to Spring Park, Minnesota. Don is survived by his wife, Jean; his four children; eight of his nine grandchildren' and six great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Maple Plain, MN, 558 County Rd 110, on Saturday July 8, 2006 at 11 AM.
