Dorothy Kottke Obituary
Died quietly on a sunny day, August 17th, at 10:20 am. She was listening to piano music with her friend, Jamie, at Chapel View in Hopkins. She was 91 years old, many of those years spent teaching and playing music. In the late fifties, she developed a teaching curriculum for the grades that is in use today. (On the question of funding, football or music, her voice was clear.) She played piano well into her 90th year and was an orchestra cellist in Cheyenne, Wyoming and St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was a memorable soprano and could drive her husband, Larry, nuts when conducting the radio. She could sing a troubled child to sleep.Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Kathy and Ann; her son, Leo; her brother Dick Clugston; by her grandchildren, Sarah, Joe, Teddy, Richard, April, Susan, and Laura; and by her great-grandaughter, Alana. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan, and by her parents Herb and Ethel Clugston. She was a proud and active member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and an accomplished golfer in her early life. An avid swimmer and quarry diver, she loved the lakes, loons, and twilights of Minnesota. The family is deeply grateful to the staff and friends at Chapel View. Her last years were wonderfully better for their care.Funeral service 11 AM Friday August 27, 2010 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Private interment at North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud.
