Dr. Paul Gannon Obituary Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery Dr. Paul G. Gannon, MD. PH. D. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1928. He was educated at St. Peter's Prep School in Jersey City, Holy Cross College in Worchester, Massachusetts, Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, general surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Minnesota. He practiced cardiovascular and thoracic surgery for over 40 years in the Twin Cities. He was a member of numerous surgical societies. He helped establish the Twin City Thoracic & Cardiovascular Association in 1972, also the International Heart Relief Organization, a research program and a student practical education program for medical students. "Blessed is the man To whom his work is a pleasure By whom his friends are encouraged", Teresa Opheim Dr. Gannons life work was cardiovascular surgery. Next came violin playing, classical music, history, philosophy, geography, travel, philanthropy (heart surgery on Tanzanian children and others), lifelong learning, visiting Madeline Island, and his Dassel farm. Finally teaching his granddaughter, Caroline violin playing, watching Molly dance and playing piano, and playing chess with his grandson, Jimmy. Patients were grateful to him for his giving of time while on rounds. Taking care of patients came before anything else. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rozalija Gannon; four children, Barbara Gannon, Paul Gannon, Dr. James Gannon (Dr. Tracy), Mary Ann Gannon Heine (James); three grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth Gannon, James Fuchs Gannon and Caroline Apolonija Heine. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E Wayzata Blvd in Wayzata from 5pm to 7pm. Mozarts Requiem Mass will be held at the Church of St. Agnes, 535 Thomas Avenue West in St. Paul at 11am on Saturday, July 15. Reception at church after Mass. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis at 36th and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis with procession arriving at 3pm for final viewing at the Lakewood Chapel and then all will gather at the family monument for final burial rites and military honors.
