Edward Asplin Obituary
Asplin, Edward William Age 87 of Shorewood. Passed away on August 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by mother and father, Alma and John E. Asplin; and daughter Lynn E. Asplin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Rodgers Asplin; daughter, Sarah L. Asplin; son, William R. Asplin (wife Pamela) and nine grandchildren, Glenn, Steven, Will, Grace and, Faith Asplin, Kristin, Anders, Jorgen and Gretchen Hoff. Ed was a lifelong resident of Minneapolis. He was proud to have been an Eagle Scout. He graduated from South Minneapolis High School in 1940 and received his Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Minnesota in 1943. His brief time away from Minneapolis included three years with the United States Navy in the Pacific during WWII as an officer and three years in Detroit starting his business career with the First National Bank of Detroit. Upon his return to Minneapolis, he began work with Banco, moved on to the Northwestern National Bank in 1959 and finally concluded his career with the Bemis Company, from 1967 to 1987. Ed retired from Bemis as Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer. He served on the corporate Boards of Cincinnati Milicron, Deluxe Check Printers and St. Paul Book and Stationary. Additionally, Ed supported several local and national charities with his financial resources and time. Locally, he served on the Minneapolis YMCA Board, The Minnesota Historical Association and Opportunity Partners. He actively supported the Minnesota Symphony, Guthrie Theater, Children's Hospital, University of Minnesota Cancer Research, Mt. Olivet and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Churches. Whether it was a donation or his life long accomplishments in fund raising for all causes, his love of God, family and community were always his source of inspiration. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 11a.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 301 County Road 19, Excelsior, MN. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
