Edwin John Turnquist
02/15/1929 2/22/2018
Edwin John Turnquist, a devoted husband, father and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and his beloved wife Gloria. Ed began his 89 years as the third son of Edwin Oskar and Mable Turnquist, after older brothers Don and Ralph. Ed attended Stanford University and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity where he formed lifelong friendships. He was struck by a thunderbolt of love when he met Gloria Haberl, his "Wild Irish Rose." The two were married and, through 62 years together, created a life of faith, family and friends. They were blessed with five children.
After a 33-year career, Ed retired as president of the Turnquist Paper Company. He was well respected in the industry and had lasting relationships with customers and employees alike. Throughout his life, Ed shared his deep faith, a faith that lead him to become a Eucharistic Minister. An incredible family man, Ed taught by example and instilled character and honor. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, was an avid golfer, voracious reader and loved to sing.
Ed is survived by his wife Gloria, and his children and grandchildren: Eric (wife Myrtle and children Hanna and Ray), Sean, Edwin (wife Marcia and children Macklin and Amelia), Peter (wife Mary and son Tony), and Tracy (husband Larry and children Sarah [Blane] and Steven), and by his great-grandchildren Emma and Aspen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Bartholomew, 630 East Wayzata Boulevard in Wayzata at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018. There will be visitation 1 hour before the service and a reception immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, Ed requested donations to St. Bartholomews Church.
