Elizabeth (Wiz) Velie Bovey, age 92, of Wayzata, MN, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025. Elizabeth was born in Minneapolis in 1933 and grew up in Wayzata. Elizabeth was preceded in death by second husband, Martin (Jim) Koon Bovey, Jr.; parents, Charles Koon Velie and Elizabeth Decker Velie; son, John Velie Webb; siblings, Charles Koon Velie, Jr., Susan Velie Norton, and John Deere Velie II; and first husband and father of her children, Roscoe Clayton Webb, Jr. Elizabeth is survived by two sons, Roscoe Clayton Webb III (wife, Catherine) and Timothy Deere Webb; 5 grandchildren, Caitlin Velie White (Joshua), Ashley Elizabeth Webb, Sara Decker McCarthy (Alec), Finley Clayton Webb, and Madigan Velie Webb; and two great grandchildren, Decklynn Laurel White and Camden Ryan White. She is survived by siblings, Margaret Velie Kinney and Edward Decker Velie (Eve).
Elizabeth graduated from Westover School, Middlebury, CT, attended Smith College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She later received her M.A. in counseling psychology and had a private practice in Westwood and Santa Monica, CA for 15 years. She was also a supervisor for two counseling centers in the Los Angeles area. After she moved back to Wayzata she became a guardian ad litem for Hennepin County.
Elizabeth had many passions throughout her life in sports, arts, theatre, literature, travel and music. She was on the crew team during her scholastic years, and during her adult life, a skilled downhill snow skier, competitive paddle tennis player at The Beach Club in Santa Monica, and avid tennis player at the Riviera Country Club and Woodhill Country Club. She had an impeccable eye for art and design as demonstrated in her homes adorned with modern art paintings, sculptures, and furniture. She loved enriching her mind whether by reading books, enjoying the theater and live music, singing from the church pews, strolling through museums, or traveling the world. As the years moved on she became an avid bridge player. She enjoyed trying new cuisines and would never say no to a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.
She had a kind and engaging spirit carried by a strong and direct candor. Her warm smile and good humor were always a comforting presence. She loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a private ceremony at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
