Elmer Schindel Obituary Elmer A. Schindel Of Wayzata. Passed away December 10, 2024. Elmer was born in a farmhouse near Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Wednesday, May 4, 1938. He was the 6th of 12 children of A. L. and Lydia Schindel He moved to Jamestown, N.D., and enrolled at the University of Jamestown, graduating in 1963. It was there in Concert Choir that he met Bonnie Prochaska. They were married in August 1963. Elmer and Bonnie enjoyed their winter home in Rio Verde, AZ, for many years. Elmer began his career in the investment business in Duluth, Minnesota, at Dain Kalman & Quail. There, he was named Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager. In 1983, he became Branch Manager at the Dain office in Minnetonka. In 1991, he moved to Paine Webber to form 'The Investment Management Consulting Group.' He managed that group until his retirement in January 2000. He joined Rotary in Duluth in 1974 and was active on the Board. He transferred to the St. Louis Park Rotary Club when he moved to the Twin Cities. He served several terms on the Club Board and was President of the Club. He served on the Foundation Board, helping direct support to local charities and raising money to ensure the Foundation's viability in the future. He funded a four-year college scholarship for a minority student from St. Louis Park High School. Elmer raised money to support other scholarships in memory of other outstanding Rotary Club members. He served on the University of Jamestown's Board of Trustees for 17 years. There, he worked to reorganize the University's Endowment Fund, bringing more discipline and accountability to the investment process. He also updated the Alumni Association's bylaws and co-chaired a capital fund drive that culminated in construction of the new Harold Newman state-of-the-art Athletic Arena. Elmer was elected to the University's Hall of Fame and was named Trustee Emeritus. Elmer was committed to helping people in need. Some of his charities that benefited from his giving are Can Do Canines, Ridgedale YMCA, Crescent Cove, Pilgrims of Ibillin, Sharing and Caring Hands, Salvation Army, Amnesty International, STEP, Second Harvest, Habitat for Humanity, ACLU, American Indian College Fund, and many more. He always had great compassion for the disadvantaged. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; daughter, LoriAnn Marquardt, brothers, Reuben, Edwin and Milton; sisters, Esther and Linda. He leaves behind an extraordinary friend and partner, Judy Heiser; son, Jay and wife Dayna; grandson, Jacob Harens and wife Kori; sisters, Viola and Lillian, and brothers, Norman, Garry, Ivan, and Roland. Memorial service Saturday January 25, 11:00 AM at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Memorials preferred to any of Elmers favorite charities mentioned above.
