Ethel Smith Obituary Smith, Ethel J. Age 86, of Wayzata, passed away November 5, 2015 following a two year battle against breast cancer. Preceded in death by her parents, Walter Gladstone Johnson and Ethel Marie (Turner) Johnson and husband, Alexander Alley Smith Jr. Ethel considered the most meaningful accomplishments of her life to have been her two children and her years of teaching. The beauty of nature, art, and music and work done with her hands have given her pleasure and strength throughout her life. Ethel is survived by her daughters, Allison Smith and Melanie (Smith) Harer; stepdaughter, Janis (Smith) Havens; daughter-in-law, Dana Luce; grandchildren, Christopher Harer, Bella Smith-Maxwell, Ashley Harer, Connor Smith-Maxwell, River Maxwell, Topanga Maxwell, Zachary Harer, and Cesar Smith; step-granddaughter, Chrissy (Havens) Spigel (and husband, Jeff Spigel); and step-greatgrandchildren, Ava Spigel and Nathan Spigel. Memorial service will be Friday, November 13 at 2:00 pm at St Martins by-the-Lake Episcopal Church, 2801 Westwood Road, Minnetonka Beach, with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, she would prefer that a donation be made to St. Martins in Minnetonka Beach, MN; Church of the Ascension in Lexington Park, MD; or the Minnesota Arboretum.
