Obituary

Frank Plant Obituary Plant, Frank W. of Plymouth, died January 1, 2007. Born February 28, 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Frank attended The Blake School, graduating from Canterbury School prior to attending Princeton University. He attended the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was President of the Minnesota Law Review, graduating with honors in 1936. He joined the Kingman Law Firm, predecessor to the Gray Plant Mooty Mooty Bennett Firm of today, where he worked in private practice until the outbreak of World War II. Then moving to Washington DC, he worked in the Office of Price Administration (OPA) until his acceptance into the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. Trained as an air liaison officer, Frank landed with the first wave of troops at Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian, in the South Pacific, helping to develop early strategies for the use of aircraft in tactical air support of ground troops. At the conclusion of WWII, he rejoined the Kingman firm. His work was focused in the areas of family business, trust and estate planning. He was a leader in creating opportunities for women, minorities and disadvantaged persons and sharing generously through many pro bono activities. He was an early participant in the Amicus program and also active in Legal Advice Clinics and other groups seeking to help the poor and underprivileged. The Frank W. Plant Equal Justice Award is named in his honor. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 60 years; daughters, Linda Simmons (Robert), and Julia Plant; sons, Hubert and Thomas (Lisa) Plant. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan and Thomas Simmons, Mary and Tess Plant-Thomas, Riley and Reese Plant, and nephew Frank Clifford (Barbara). Preceded in death by son, Michael and sister, Bernadetta Clifford. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 9 at St. Therese Catholic Church of Deephaven, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd. Private interment. The Plant family would like to acknowledge the supportive care of the nurses on Reflections at Hillcrest Nursing Home and that of the Allina Hospice & Palliative Care staff.
