Fred Blair
Lafferty Iii
May 11, 1941 – January 8, 2026
Fred B. Lafferty III passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Wayzata, Minnesota. He was 84 years old.
Born on May 11, 1941, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Fred was the son of Betty and Fred Lafferty. He attended Admiral Farragut Academy, laying the foundation for a lifetime of service and leadership. He went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Colgate University where he was named All American in Lacrosse before earning a law degree at Pitt Law School.
Fred began his professional career as an FBI field agent, where he served with distinction. His commitment to integrity and security later led him to Cargill, where he took on a role as Director of Global Security. Over the course of 33 years with the company Fred became a respected leader, chairing the State Department Committee for Security Awareness and Education. He retired in 2007 after a long and impactful tenure.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Fred found great joy in family life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bev Lafferty; his stepson, Chris Phillips; daughter-in-law Heidi; and grandsons, Jackson and Wyatt. Fred cherished time spent with them, especially during summer days at Lafayette Country Club, where he could often be found poolside or enjoying a round of golf.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Betty and Fred Lafferty, as well as his sister Georgie Gallena.
A man of quiet strength and enduring loyalty, Fred will be remembered fondly by those who knew him for his dedication to family and career, and for the simple pleasures he enjoyed most.
May his memory bring comfort to all who held him dear.
