Fred Winter Obituary
Of Plymouth, MN. Born to Frederick and Alvena Winter in Fairbury, NE on December 28th, 1929 - Fred passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 23rd. His loving wife, Kathy, of 41 years, was by his side. "She takes such good care of me," was his constant refrain. An avid sports fan growing up in Nebraska he became a history teacher and coach following graduation from Wesleyan College. His championship basketball team from Pawnee City High School stayed in contact with their beloved coach for many years. After leaving teaching, he became a pharmaceutical sales representative for over 20 years. During that period, he moved to Edina, MN where he served on the Edina School Board. He also continued coaching and refereeing.
His final career was as President of Travel Service Coordinators (TSC) in Minnetonka which he founded in 1980. At TSC, he and Kathy took corporate groups on countless incentive trips to tropical destinations and foreign countries. He was an active member and past president of the St. Louis Park Rotary, Member and Past President of Wayzata Masonic Lodge, President of the Mobil Nobles of Shriners, and Board Member of Medina Country Club. During retirement, he and Kathy spent the Winter months at their home in Scottsdale, AZ. Fred was a diehard Viking fan and held season tickets for over 45 years. His cherished hobbies included golfing, playing bridge and hearts, boating on Lake Minnetonka, and singing. One of his most cherished retirement activities was attending his grandchildrens sporting events.
Fred was preceded in death by his sons, Charles Winter, Fred Winter, and his brothers Robert, Richard, Rolland and sisters Barbara Ann and Lois. Survived by wife, Kathleen Winter; daughters, Nancy Winter, Kara Ellinger (Todd), Melanie Fisher (Keith), and Melissa Sheridan (John), and daughter-in-law Cindy Winter. And six grandchildren Sam, Emma, Hunter, Claudia, Wyatt and Abby.
A private family Mass will be held to celebrate his life, and a public celebration will be announced later.
