Frederick Olson Obituary
Olson, Fred S. 89, of Golden Valley, died February 2, 2006, of brain cancer. Preceded in death by parents Gyda and NF Olson, sister Eleanor Kjorlien, and niece Donna Fox. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Annette; by daughters Karen (Richard) Hardine, Alexandria, MN, and Barbara Olson (Marc) Bullis, Plymouth, MN; and by grandchildren Justin and Kara Bullis. Fred was born in Northwood, North Dakota, April 16, 1916, and graduated from Northwood High School. He attended the Minneapolis College of Business and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946. Fred worked for Gamble Skogmo and after that owned Marketing Associates (manufacturers' representatives) for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, projects around the house (we had the best play houses and a full-sized skating rink in our yard in the winter; Dad was our electrician, plumber, painter, fixer, and all-around handyman), visiting Crane Lake and Little Pine Lake (MN), eating sweets, and spending time with his grandchildren. By example, Fred taught us the importance of humor and a positive attitude. Fred laughed and joked right up until the end. Even somber subjects, if spun correctly, could take a humorous turn. He was a strong presence in our lives and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation at 10:00, Memorial Service at 11:00, followed by lunch, on Wednesday, February 8th, St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church (17205 County Road 6, Plymouth, MN). Burial at Fort Snelling, 2:00 pm. Memorials preferred to Methodist Hospital Hospice (6500 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, MN 55426), Colonial Acres Health Care Center (5825 St. Croix Avenue North, Golden Valley, MN 55422-4419), or Donna Fox Scholarship Endowment Fund (Anoka-Ramsey Community College, 11200 Mississippi Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433).
