Gerene D. Carlson (Hovan), age 98, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026.

She was born on July 27, 1927, and lived a long and meaningful life. Gerene was known for her wry smile, quick wit, strength, and quiet grace. She grew up with a loving mother, Bea Hovan who shaped her resilience and character.

Family and friends were always at the center of her life and heart. She was a devoted spouse to Royal (Roy) Carlson, step-mother to Nancy Carlson Stidger, Robin Wayne Carlson and Mary Sue Carlson Kirby, grandmother to seven, great grandmother to many.

Gerene had a gift for making others feel welcomed and cared for. She found joy in simple pleasures and time spent with loved ones. Throughout her life, she demonstrated compassion and generosity. Gerene's wisdom and steady presence guided many.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and enduring love. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched so deeply. She leaves behind a family who cherished her dearly.

We will be celebrating her life with services at Wayzata Community Church this coming July. She will be interred at Lakewood Cemetery.

Her life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance. She faced each chapter with dignity and quiet courage.
