Glenn Eide Obituary
Eide, Glenn Arthur Of Wayzata, MN, died on Sunday, February 26, 2006. He passed away in his home surrounded by his family. Born May 6, 1927 in Minneapolis to George and Mildred Eide, he graduated from West High in Minneapolis, attended the University of Minnesota (Chi Psi) and served in the US Navy from 1944-45. He married Mary, his wife of 52 years, and moved to Wayzata in 1952 to start their family. They resided at 321 Bushaway Road for nearly half a century. Glenn took over Eide Saw from his father in 1951, and moved it to 300 North Washington Ave., Minneapolis. He sold the saw service and established Eide Machinery sales in 1976, which passed to his son, Mitchell, in 2005. Glenn was a pioneer and leader in the industrial woodworking business for over 50 years; a president and founding organizer of the Woodworking Machinery Distributors Association (WMDA). He built a leading edge, service oriented sales company spanning from early sawmill equipment to the age of automation in the truss manufacturing industry. Glenn was a cornerstone of citizenship and service in the life of his communities from his days as a Community Chest fundraiser and Shriner, to the citizen groups through which he and Mary helped to shape and preserve Wayzata. Glenn most recently served as treasurer of Friends of the Big Woods and secretary to the Wayzata Historical Society. He enjoyed 47 years as a private pilot, and a lifetime of fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; sister, Lorraine and parents. He is survived by children, Kristen Eide-Tollefson (Ted); Mark W. Eide (Lisa Daniels), granddaughter Marissa; G. Mitchell Eide (Inez), granddaughters Hannah, Lane, & Emily. He is also survived by nephew, William L. McKee and nieces, Mary Ann Smith, Barbara Lemmons and families; three step-grandchildren, Cathy Bonse, Jim and Mike Cummings, their families; and Trace.
