Harvey 'Harv' Newquist Obituary Harvey Harv Newquist Harvey Harv Newquist, age 82, beloved husband, dad, and granddad, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023. Harv was born and raised in North Minneapolis, attending Minnehaha Academy, and then the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, where he met his future wife, Denie Bystrom. He received a business degree and was a member of R.O.T.C. & Alpha Kappa Psi. After marrying Denie, Harv volunteered for the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, as a Lt. in the Medical Corps, 2nd Armor Division. They came back to Minnesota to raise a family and where he had a career in sales, first with a family business and then other companies. They were married for 56 years and lived in Plymouth for most of that time. Harv was exceptionally curious especially about the insect world as an amateur naturalist. It was common for Harv to flip over a large rock in the woods, picking up each and every insect to teach his boys about the creatures living underneath. He loved fishing with family and annual moose hunting trips in Ontario with Dix Ward, brother-in-law. Always inquisitive, Harv started a few conversations a day with the sentence fragment, I wonder why... He passed on that curiosity to his boys. People gravitated towards Harv, especially kids. He was often the person that stated what the rest of us where silently thinking, especially if it would make people laugh. Harv would always get a person or group chuckling during each interaction. Some of his favorite things were spending time with family at Ottertail Lake, card nights with friends, watching sports with his son Rob, playing with his grandkids, cookouts with his family, and staring at the stars. Harv was a terrific dad and husband - always made a point of letting his boys know that he was proud of them and showing his wife that he loved her. Harv is preceded in death by his wife, Lydene Denie Newquist (who passed away in August 2021); survived by sons, Rick (Anne) Newquist, Rob (Natalee) Newquist; grandchildren, Ingrid Newquist, Ben Schwab & Everett Newquist.
