Hazel Hastings Obituary Hastings, Hazel L. "Spence" age 91, of Minnetonka, MN, died peacefully on Monday, May 22, 2017. Daughter of Leon and Leilah Harvey Spencer. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Hastings, Sr., brothers Lorin, Harvey, and Burton Spencer and grandson, Daniel Williams. Spence is survived by her children C. Thomas Hastings, Jr. (Joan), Jill Hastings-Storer (John Storer), Michael Hastings (Lori) and Maureen Shaver (Craig Shaver). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Sean, Corey, Jamey, Brandon, Susan, Spencer, Brad, Katie, Craig and Spencer and two great-grandchildren Cameron and Savannah and numerous nieces and nephews. Spence was born and raised on a beef cattle farm in Madelia, MN, attended Carlton College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She was a stewardess for Northwest Orient Airlines and was married for 63 years. Spence and Chuck started their family in Minnesota and transferred to St Louis, Missouri where they raised their children. When she returned to Minnesota, she finished her child rearing and volunteered for many years at Sojourner Shelter, where she helped support victims of domestic violence. Throughout her life, she enjoyed her neighbors and all the neighborhood activities in Graeler Park and Highgate neighborhoods. The Beanhaven ladies from St. Therese church were the dearest of friends and she cherished her final years at The Glenn in Minnetonka. Spence was beloved by her grandchildren who gave her great joy. She was a bright, loyal, charming woman and she will be missed. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, June 9 at 11 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd., Deephaven (952-474-4422). Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Lunch reception will follow the service. Private family interment Riverside Cemetery, Madelia, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Sojourner Project, PO Box 272, Hopkins, MN 55343 or the Church of St. Therese.
