Obituary

Helen Bartel Obituary Bartel, Helen (nee Lord) age 90, of Wayzata. Born January 30, 1922 in Browns Valley, MN, and after a lifetime of care and commitment, died June 30, 2012. Helen is survived by children and their spouses, Greg & Anne Bartel, Denise Bartel & Dan Perkins, and Kevin & Mary Bartel. Helen had 4 grandchildren, Maura, Patrick & Edmund Bartel, Chelsea (O'Neil) Iron Cloud and 2 great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her sisters, Prudence Millea & Joan Ellrich, sister-in-law, Grace Lord, & many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by husband, Eddie (1985), the love of her life; brothers & sisters, Bill Lord, Wes Lord, Marge Arrowsmith, Doris Anderson, Lil Caswell, & great-granddaughter, Kimmi Iron Cloud. Helen met Eddie in Waukegan, IL, on the beach of Lake Michigan. They were married at Fort Riley, KS, on August 16, 1943, before Eddie left for Europe in WWII. After his return, the couple moved to Minneapolis, followed by moves to Edina, Long Lake, and finally, Wayzata. They both worked hard, loved their family and enjoyed playing golf & bridge with friends. Helen was a regular volunteer at church & school functions & was a steady caretaker for her parents. Helen will be remembered for her perseverance and stubborn toughness through both the good and hard times. Thank you to all the care- givers from Health Technologies, Methodist Hospital, Park Nicollet Hospice and Mt Olivet Careview Home who helped mom navigate the last 4 months of her life. Memorials preferred to Mt Olivet Careview Home or the family. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on July 6, 2012 at St Bartholomew's Catholic Church, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN, with visitation 1 hour before.
