Howard Alton Jr Obituary Alton, Howard R. Jr. "Bob" A life well lived, age 90, of Wayzata, MN and Palm Beach, FL, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Wayzata on December 3, surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard R. Alton, Sr. and Vera Boehmke Alton, and his sister Barbara Alton Fox. Survived by his wife, Camilla Ann Alton, his children Judge Ann L. Alton, Retired, Jeanine P. Alton-Ryan (Shawn), Howard R. Alton, III "Robin", Patricia Alton Baker (Jeff), and Michelle Alton Bonomo (Sammy), 13 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, MN with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial at Lakewood Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Memorials preferred to the Alton Fund at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Bob was born in 1927 in Pipestone, Minnesota where his father later owned and operated Pan-O-Gold Baking Co. Bob worked for the bakery early on and after his fathers death he became President of Pan-O-Gold. He served in the Marines in World War II and attended college on the GI Bill, first at Augustana College, and later at the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a Business degree in 1950. He moved to Wayzata, MN in the early 1960s. He expanded Pan-O-Gold by buying bakeries in Minneapolis, MN, St. Cloud, MN, and Fargo, ND. Today Pan-O-Gold has bakeries in St. Cloud, Fargo, and Madison, WI. He spent his career working in the baking industry and enjoyed close relationships with many of his long term business associates and bakery employees. In the early 1970s, Bob was one of the founding members of Midwestern School of Law which later became Hamline University Law School. At age 48, Bob graduated Cum Laude as part of the first law school class in 1975. He was very proud to become a licensed attorney in Minnesota. He was also a licensed pilot and boat captain and a member of numerous legal, business, and charitable organizations. Bob loved the outdoors and spending time at the lake. He owned cabins in Slayton, Longville, and Grand Marais in Minnesota. Later Bob and Camilla enjoyed spending time on Madeline Island in Wisconsin. They made many good friends in all of these communities. They became Palm Beach residents and spent time in Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Bob loved to spend time outdoors, walking in the woods, boating, fishing, hunting, and creating wildlife habitat. He loved his family, friends, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
