Born in Sebeka, MN, died September 15th, 2015 at the age of 98. He passed away peacefully in his home in Wayzata, MN. Preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Fredricka, his 16 brothers and sisters, and his loving wife, Viola. Survived by sons, Randall and Hugh; grandchildren, Timothy (Carol), Jacob, Angela (Tony) and great grandchildren, Maxwell and Ashton. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 19th at 11:30 a.m. with visitation 10:30 at St. Philip the Deacon Church, 17205 County Road 6 in Plymouth. Interment at Lakewood..
Hugo was born on a farm in Paddock Township on July 23rd, 1917 where he remained until 1937 when the farm was sold. Tagging along with his brothers, he led an adventurous life from the gold rush in Alaska, to riding the rail to sailing the great lakes. While sailing, he was drafted into the army in 1941. In 1942, he married, Viola Kinnunen with whom he shared his life with until her death on September 15th, 2009. His was employed by the Honeywell Corporation until he contracted Rheumatic Fever. During his recovery at home, he took correspondence courses learning the trade of refrigeration, which led him to managing the service department at Donaldsons Department Store. From there, he was approached by the Maytag Company to address the service needs of the then modern day appliances. He began the company, Maytag Service Center of the Twin Cities in 1957. It is still a successfully running family business to this day. Retiring in the early 80s, he led an active life participating in business affairs, traveling with family and enjoying friends. Hugo, in his 98 years, did so much for so many. He will be greatly missed.
