James Colville Obituary COLVILLE, JAMES C. (JIM) September 1942 March 2016 James C. Colville, of Wayzata, MN, former CEO of Greater Twin Cities United Way, passed away on March 1st at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Sarah; three children, Teryll (Dennis) Desroches, Scott (Shari) Colville, Brandt (Kathy) Colville; his sister, Carolyn Goodman; the lights of his life - his five grandchildren Cally Jo, Tom, Josh, Rachel, and Jennie; along with many other relatives. Jims greatest passions in life were family and community. He enjoyed baseball, football, and hockey with his sons & grandsons, and dancing, skating, music, and movies with his daughter & granddaughters. Jim also valued the gift of time, often reminding others that time is the most precious asset we are given and was committed to using it wisely. Jim was born and raised in Mississippi and attended Ole Miss for one year before moving to Texas to complete his business degree at TCU. His forty years of service to the community through United Way began in Texas. He relocated to Minneapolis in the late seventies as the Executive Director of Minneapolis United Way. He was privileged to work with business leaders, not-for-profit providers, staff and volunteers who shared his passion to strengthen services for all members of this community. Among his many accomplishments, Jim was most proud of the creation of the Greater Twin Cities United Way, a joint effort by Minneapolis United Way and St. Paul United Way to more effectively serve residents of the nine county region. Success by 6(r) and early childhood development programs created under his leadership have been replicated in cities throughout the country. Jim served as a volunteer with numerous not-for-profit organizations including St. Olaf College Board of Regents, Mentoring Partnership of MN, VocalEssence, Eleven Who Care, Taste of the NFL, United Way of America National Professional Council, United Way Funded Agencies. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 6 from 1- 4 at the David Lee Funeral Home in Wayzata. A Memorial Service in celebration of Jims life will be held at Wayzata Community Church at 1:00 on Monday March 7. In lieu of flowers, please continue Jims support of the community by contributing to the local charity of your choice.
