James Peterson Obituary
Peterson, James Gray Age 87, of Shorewood, passed away on December 29, 2007. Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Alice Peterson. Papa Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn; children, Gregg (Carter) Peterson of Wayzata, Kate (Chris) Burr of Dedham, MA, Doug (Wendy) Peterson of Kula, HI, Linda (Rick) Denman of Shorewood; grandchildren, Laddie, Kelsey and Clark Peterson; Victor, Greta and Peter Hagg; and Kate Peterson. Also survived by his brother, Ralph W. Peterson of St. Paul. Jim was born on August 15, 1920 in St. Paul, grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood, participated in Boy Scouts attaining Eagle Scout rank. He attended St. Paul Central H.S. and the University of Minnesota in the ROTC program, graduating in 1942 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, attaining the rank of Captain, and was stationed at Wright- Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH where he was involved in flight and guided missile engineering. He received a master's degree in business from the University of Minnesota. He joined J.M. Dain & Co. in 1948 as an analyst, advancing to stockbroker, Sales Manager and finally President during a period of growth and expansion as the firm became Dain Bosworth through mergers and acquisitions. He retired in 1972 and was involved in fundraising for the University of Minnesota Foundation, consulting and service on corporate boards, including Investors Savings Bank and Flexsteel Industries. He was a past President of the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce and Minneapolis Rotary, and a past member of Wayzata Country Club, the Minneapolis Club and Dunkers' Club. He was a frequent economic and investment advisor to leaders in business and government and a life-long mentor to countless young business people in their early careers. A 50-year resident on his beloved Christmas Lake, Jim was a prolific amateur photographer, a dedicated golfer and a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed final 2007 geese and duck hunting trips. He wrote daily journal entries for over 35 years and in his own words: There you have it. A private family interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Friends are invited to a memorial reception with the family, 3 pm to 5 pm on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Wayzata Country Club, 200 Wayzata Blvd West, Wayzata, MN.
