Obituary

Janet Waldrep Obituary Age 88, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2017, and is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd (a US Navy veteran), her parents, one sister, and one brother. Janet (or Jan, to those closest to her) is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and is enjoying her new home in Heaven due to the grace of God. Jan was born August 16, 1929 in West New York, New Jersey (on the west shore of the Hudson River overlooking Manhattan Island) to her father, William Detroy (from Belgium) and Emelie Wolf Detroy (from the Alsace-Lorraine area of France). As a child, Jan loved ice skating (especially the rink at Rockefeller Center), music, and singing (even taking singing lessons when she was a young adult; as a soprano many felt she sounded like Jo Stafford), as well as visiting Palisades Amusement Park and Coney Island. Prior to getting married, Jan lived in Guttenberg, NJ and worked in a typing pool in NYC. Jan met Lloyd through her brother Billy, a shipmate of Lloyd in the Navy. Then, not too long after getting married, she moved to Texas ultimately settling in San Antonio. She worked at USAA for many years, was a terrific homemaker as well, and in 1978 opened Jeanettes Restaurant which overlooked the San Antonio River. Jan and Lloyd attended Concordia Lutheran Church while living in San Antonio, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was also an avid bowler and loved driving the family muscle car, a 375 HP GTX, which struck many as rather unique. Later in life, after moving to Minnesota, Jan worked part time at her sons business, Datatrend Technologies, and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata where she enjoyed serving in Compassion Circle. Jan enjoyed hobbies such as painting and ceramics, loved good conversation over coffee and Danish, and was a great cook (famous dishes include Quiche Lorraine, French pear pie, chocolate sheath cake, and cream puffs). Jan also loved going on scenic drives and had a great sense of humor. She taught her sons "if there is a will, theres a way" and "trust in the Lord." Jan is survived by sons Mark and Darren (Laura), grandson Aaron, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata on Wednesday, December 27 at 11:30am with lunch afterwards, followed by interment next to her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 115 Wayzata Blvd. W., Wayzata, MN 55391. Funeral Service 11:30 AM ,Wednesday, December 27, 2017 Redeemer Lutheran Church 115 West Wayzata Blvd Wayzata, MN 55391
