Janette Burton Obituary
Janette Johnston Burton, 80, died June 14 at Methodist Hospital, having had all of her children with her in the previous week. As she had all her life, Janette warmed hearts, including those of her final caregivers. She was born on April 10, 1926 in St. Paul to Harrison R. Johnston and Elizabeth Main Johnston. She attended public and private schools in Minneapolis and St. Paul, graduating from The Northrup School in 1944. After receiving her BA from Smith College in 1948, she married John C. Burton on June 9, 1949. John and Janette made their home in Deephaven, where Janette taught tennis and skiing to a loyal clientele. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harrison R. Johnston, Jr. and her nephew Herrick Johnston; she is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-seven years; her five children, Mary Lindley Burton of New York, NY, Elizabeth B. Ericson (Bruce) of San Francisco, CA, Sarah B. Marshall (Paul) of Deephaven, MN, Thomas W. Burton (Georgia) of Deephaven, MN, and Mark H. Burton (Jean) of Madison, CT; six cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christopher Marshall, Harrison and Charles Burton, and John and Whitney Ericson; her sister-in-law Elizabeth C. Johnston; and fourteen nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to UNICEF, 333 East 38th Street NY, NY 10016 or a favorite charity. A memorial service will be held on June 24 at 2 PM at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue.
