Jay Handy Obituary Age 66, of Plymouth, MN, and Rochester, NY. Jay passed away on June 21st surrounded by his family after a valiant battle withimage003.jpg pancreatic cancer. Jay was born on May 15, 1951, in Rochester, NY, to parents, Diddy and Jack Handy. He attended Penfield High School where he was a National Merit Scholar and lettered in golf, swimming and soccer. Jay was an Eagle Scout and attended the World Jamboree in Idaho in 1967. A graduate of Colgate University, Jay played on the golf team and spent his junior year studying at The University of London where he was hired to teach creative writing. After college, Jay lived in Paris where he worked for publisher Holt, Rinehart and Winston, collaborating on a book entitled "Ben Hecht: The Man Behind the Legend". Shortly after returning to the U.S., Jay met the love of his life, Katharine McKelvey, and they were married on Oct. 10, 1978. Jay and Kathy have two sons, John W. Handy III (age 37, wife Emily, children William and Elizabeth) and Scott M. Handy (age 33, wife Courtney). Jay and his family moved to Minnesota in 1980 to follow his career as a sales engineer in electronics manufacturing. Every summer, Jays family traveled to their beloved home on Marthas Vineyard, where he enjoyed long days on the beach, family tennis matches and late-night card games. Jay was an avid golfer and Minnesota Twins fan. Along with his wife of 39 years and his two sons, Jay is survived by his mother, Diddy Handy, his sister, Barbara Pahl, of Denver, and his brother, Peter Handy, of Dallas. A celebration of Jays life is planned for Friday, July 7th at 4 PM at Wayzata Community Church, 125 E Wayzata Blvd. Reception immediately following at the church.
