Jerry Nelson Obituary Nelson, Jerry Eldon age 96 of Wayzata, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on August 22, 2024. Jerry grew up in Osseo Wisconsin, met his future wife from the neighboring town of Mondovi, served in the United States Marine Corp from 1946 to 1948 and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1952. He started his teaching and coaching career in Blair, Wisconsin and continued to share his love of science and team sports with students in Boscobel, WI and West Saint Paul, MN until his retirement in 1989. He continued to share his love for the outdoors with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren until his final days. Mary and Jerry enjoyed their retirement years, traveling, golfing, spending time with the grandchildren and their great-granddaughter. They also enjoyed their winters in the south, with dear friends old and new. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Mary, his parents, Fred and Vera Nelson, and his 6 brothers and sisters and their spouses. Survived by sons, Mark (Sylvia) Nelson, Paul Nelson and daughter, Tammy Mattson; grandchildren, Laura Nelson, Zachary (Lindsey) Nelson, Erik (Madalyn) Mattson, David Mattson, Allicyn Nelson and John Nelson; great-granddaughter, Jade; many beloved nieces and nephews and friends. Celebration of Life service Saturday, September 14 at 11a.m. at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, with visitation one hour prior to the service and a light luncheon following at Folkestone, 100 Promenade Avenue, Wayzata, MN. Private internment at Fort Snelling Cemetery on Monday, September 16. Memorials to Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Wilderness Canoe Base, Pheasants Forever or the donors favorite charity.
