Joan Popham Obituary Popham, Joan Marion (Nelson) Age 80. Passed away unexpectedly at her Medina home on January 4, 2013. Born to Frank and Lillie Nelson in Lindstrom, MN on November 30, 1932. Married to Wayne Popham in Lindstrom on December 10, 1955. Joan was such a loving and kind soul. She grew up on a farm on the Sunrise River near Lindstrom, MN. She, along with her sisters, worked on the farm, ice skated in the winters, and generally had a wonderful growing-up time. Her faith was always important her - she grew up singing in the church choir and was a very active member of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church and Messiah United Methodist Church. Joan was passionate about politics, loved entertaining family and friends, was a wonderful cook, enjoyed gardening, and volunteered with so many organizations. She always made her family her first priority. Joan was preceded in death by parents Frank and Lillie; Waynes parents, Sam and Ione; sister-in-law, Joan Edwards; brothers-in-law, Jim Sinclair and Bill Popham. Joan is survived by husband Wayne, sisters LaVonne Heighway and Betty Sinclair, and brother-in-law Le Edwards. Joan is also survived by her children: Todd and Alicia Popham (Chelsea, Austin); Kathy and Jeff Dick (Madeline, Gretchen, Conner); Geoff and Sandy Popham (Sam, Joe, Kelly); Stephanie and David Nelson (Claire, Andrew, Heidi); and, John and Chris Popham (Noel and Ethyl, Brandon, Seth; Joel and Erma, Christian, Joelin; Grace, John) as well as other loving relatives and friends. Funeral service 11AM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 17805 County Road 6, Plymouth with visitation 5-8 PM Tuesday at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata and one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Messiah United Methodist Church, the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Salvation Army. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Lindstrom, MN.
