John Bergeson Obituary John Paul Bergeson, 61, passed away on 22 June, 2025. He was born on 17 November, 1963 in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Gerry Altringer and Dick Bergeson and older siblings Beth and Steve.
John spent the majority of his childhood in Wayzata, Minnesota, playing youth baseball and hockey alongside his brother Steve, and spending summers fishing at his grandparents cabin on Kabekona Lake. He graduated from Wayzata High School in 1982, and went on to study Economics at Bemidji State University, earning his Bachelor's of Science in 1990.
After graduation, John worked for his mother and step-father, Gerry and Paul Altringer repairing hurricane-damaged homes in Florida before finding a career in insurance, working as an insurance adjuster for over 30 years. His colleagues remember him for his excellent level of service and dedication to helping others.
In 1990, John met Wendy Hoffman, and the two were married in 1993 at Minnetonka Lutheran Church in Minnetonka. They moved to Denver, CO as newlyweds and welcomed their daughter Emma in 1996. In 1999, the family returned to Wayzata, MN. Wendy and John amicably divorced in 2015. In 2020, John moved to Everett, WA to work for PEMCO Insurance Company. There he enjoyed exploring the areas many forests and coasts with his dog Wilson and visiting his daughter Emma in Seattle where they would catch baseball games or explore the citys markets.
John was a lifetime animal lover, baseball enthusiast, and music fan. Even after moving to Washington, he frequently returned to MN to visit his friends, see music, and attend the State Fair each year. His close friendship with Susan Harper inspired him to travel abroad and he took solo trips to Paris, France and London, England in honor of her memory after she passed in 2023. His friends and family will remember him for his quiet, thoughtful, and free spirit.
John is survived by his daughter Emma Bergeson, beloved dog Wilson, father Dick (Jerilynn) Bergeson, mother Gerry (Paul) Altringer, sister Beth (Dan) Altringer, brother Steve (Melissa) Bergeson, step-sisters Angela (Eugene) Krueger, DeNae Marquart, Pam (Kim Christensen) Montgomery, and step-brother Greg (Shelli) Altringer, and many nieces and nephews.
